A practical tin tray size guide to 24cm, 30cm and 31cm trays, with serving tray size chart advice, decorative tin tray uses and gift-ready picks.
Quick answer
Choose a 24cm tin tray when you need a small, giftable tray for drinks or festive treats, and a 30cm or 31cm tray when you want a generous surface for coffee, pastries or shared snacks. The 1cm difference between the 30cm and 31cm trays matters less than the design and finish you want on the table.
Why a 1cm difference rarely changes the job
The Coffee Tin Tray is 30cm and the Lemon Tin Tray is 31cm, so both sit in the same practical size band: large enough for a round of drinks or a small spread, but still easy to lift and wipe clean. Rather than measuring the gap between them, compare the mood each design brings to your table and whether you need a food-safe surface.
The trade-off between small and large tin trays
A small tin tray is easier to store, lighter to carry and more giftable, but it limits how much you can serve at once. A larger tray gives you more room for mugs, glasses or pastries, yet it takes up more table space and can feel oversized on a compact side table. Match the tray to the surface it will sit on, not just the number of items you plan to place on it.
When the design should decide
If two trays are close in size, let the design break the tie. A festive motif suits a Christmas tin tray used for mince pies or a treat left out for Santa, while a coastal lemon print works better for summer drinks and everyday serving. Decorative tin tray uses are as much about the look on the table as the surface area.
Decision rules for choosing a tin tray size
- Serving drinks for a small group: Pick the 24cm Bon Noel "Cheers" Small Tin Tray when you are serving a few glasses or mince pies and want a tray that is easy to pass around. Check that your tallest glasses fit within the tray's raised edge before buying.
- Coffee and pastries for a leisurely morning: Choose the 30cm Coffee Tin Tray when you want a lightweight tray for mugs, croissants and a relaxed bistro feel.
- Summer drinks and food-safe serving: Choose the 31cm Lemon Tin Tray when you need a food-safe surface for lemonade, snacks or a coastal-themed table, and remember it is hand wash only. If you prefer dishwasher-safe trays, check the care label before buying.
- Gifting a small tin tray: A 24cm tray is the easier size to wrap, post or tuck into a hamper; a 30cm or 31cm tray makes a stronger statement as a housewarming or host gift.
